Takes Over the
New York State Senate

ALBANY, NY – A Puerto Rican Guy has taken over the New York State Senate. Unfortunately it was the wrong Puerto Rican Guy.
Senator Pedro Espada ran as a Democrat, turned Republican, and in exchange, is now the Majority Leader of the New York State Senate.
Espada now has his hands on a state budget of $132 billion.
Espada grabs the gavel
The problem is, that Senator Pedro Espada is a crook.
- § In 1998 he was indicted for stealing $260,000 from a Medicaid program, and diverting it to his state senate campaign.
- § In 2002 he was caught funneling $745,000 in state funds, to a “non-profit” corporation owned and operated by him.
- § In 2004 seven of his “non-profit” employees were caught stealing money from AIDS patients, and diverting it to Espada’s campaign. Three of the employees pled guilty to grand larceny.
- § In 2006, Espada was paid $338,151 by his “non-profit” corporation.
- § Today in 2009, two of the “non-profit” employees who were indicted are still working for Espada. One of them (Sandra Love) makes $239,904 per year and the other (Maria Cruz) makes $141,131.
His state senate seat is located in the poorest congressional district in the entire United States…and he has been stealing from these poor people, for over 20 years.
But oh, there’s more.
Espada rises from the deep to swallow the South Bronx
Espada does not even live in the South Bronx district that elected him.
He lives in the affluent suburb of Mamaroneck, in a house valued over $700,000, at the following address:

In addition to receiving a state senate salary, and over $300,000 in salary from the Soundview Health Center, he installed himself as the landlord of Soundview. He collects rent from his own patients.
His family members are the pharmaceutical supplier to Soundview.
Every aspirin, band-aid, x-ray and Medicaid prescription dispensed in Soundview, puts a percentage into Espada’s pocket.
Another percentage goes to his political campaigns.
Career criminals like Pedro Espada are the reason that 40% of the New York State budget – over $50 billion per year – goes to Medicaid and Medicaid fraud.
Espada sucks the blood out of Soundview
This is the man they elevated to the position of Senate Majority Leader.
He should be in jail.
